Empanadas de Queso y Guayaba

Ingredients
- For the Empanadas:
- 12 empanada discs (store-bought or homemade) 🥟
- 6 oz guava paste, sliced 🍯
- 6 oz cream cheese or queso blanco, sliced 🧀
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing) 🥚
- For Frying or Baking:
- 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- OR
- 1 tbsp melted butter (for baking)
- For Serving:
- Powdered sugar (optional)
- Honey drizzle (optional)
Instructions
- 11️⃣ Assemble the Empanadas
- 2Lay out the empanada discs on a floured surface.
- 3Place a slice of guava paste and a slice of cheese in the center of each disc.
- 4Brush the edges with beaten egg and fold the dough over, forming a half-moon.
- 5Press the edges with a fork to seal.

- 7Frying:
- 8Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat (350°F/175°C).
- 9Fry empanadas in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- 10Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 11Baking:
- 12Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 13Brush empanadas with melted butter and place on a baking sheet.
- 14Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown.
