Cuban Sandwiches with Plantain Chips

Ingredients

  • For the Cuban Sandwiches:
  • 4 Cuban bread loaves or soft baguettes
  • 2 cups shredded roasted pork (pernil) 🐖
  • 8 slices ham 🍖
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese 🧀
  • 0.5 cup dill pickle slices 🥒
  • 0.25 cup yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • For the Plantain Chips:
  • 2 large green plantains, peeled and thinly sliced 🍌
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. 11️⃣ Make the Plantain Chips
  2. 2Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
  3. 3Slice plantains thinly using a mandoline or knife.
  4. 4Fry in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.
  5. 5Remove, drain on a paper towel, and sprinkle with salt and garlic powder.
  6. 62️⃣ Assemble the Cuban Sandwiches
  7. 7Slice Cuban bread loaves in half lengthwise.
  8. 8Spread yellow mustard on both sides of the bread.
  9. 9Layer Swiss cheese, ham, roasted pork, and pickles.
  10. 10Place the top half of the bread and press down slightly.
  11. 113️⃣ Grill the Sandwiches
  12. 12Heat a pan or sandwich press over medium heat.
  13. 13Spread butter on the outside of the bread.
  14. 14Press the sandwiches with a heavy skillet or sandwich press, cooking for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

  16. 16Slice the sandwiches diagonally and serve with crispy plantain chips on the side!
