Sweet Plantain and Queso Blanco Arepas

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe plantain, peeled and mashed 🍌
  • 1 cup pre-cooked cornmeal (masarepa)
  • 0.5 cup warm water
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup queso blanco, crumbled or sliced 🧀
  • 1 tbsp butter (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. 11️⃣ Make the Dough
  2. 2In a bowl, mix mashed plantain, cornmeal, warm water, and salt until a soft dough forms.
  3. 3Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
  4. 42️⃣ Shape the Arepas
  5. 5Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape them into discs.
  6. 6Place a slice of queso blanco in the center of each disc, then seal with more dough, forming a round arepa.
  7. 73️⃣ Cook the Arepas
  8. 8Heat butter in a pan over medium heat.
  9. 9Cook the arepas for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  10. 104️⃣ Serve & Enjoy!
  11. 11Serve warm, with a side of honey or guava jam for dipping!
