Mallorca French Toast with Caramel Drizzle

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of *pan de Mallorca* (sweet Puerto Rican bread) 🍞
  • 2 large eggs 🥚🥚
  • 0.5 cup whole milk 🥛
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract 🍦
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon 🌰
  • Pinch of salt 🧂
  • Butter for frying (about 2 tbsp) 🧈
  • Optional topping: powdered sugar ❄️
  • For the Caramel Drizzle:
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar 🍬
  • 0.25 cup butter 🧈
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream 🥄
  • Pinch of salt 🧂

Instructions

  1. 1Whisk the custard: In a wide bowl, beat eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  2. 2Soak the bread: Dip each slice of Mallorca bread into the custard, letting it absorb on both sides—but don’t let it get soggy!
  3. 3Heat the pan: Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  4. 4Cook the toast: Fry the slices until golden brown on both sides, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  5. 5Make the caramel: In a small saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until bubbly. Add cream and a pinch of salt. Stir until smooth.
  6. 6Serve it up: Stack the French toast, drizzle generously with caramel, and if you’re feeling fancy, dust with powdered sugar.
