Mallorca Bread with Guava Butter

Prep: 25 minCook: 20 minTotal: 45 min

Story

Back in his small coastal town, Don Luis remembered the scent of fresh *Mallorca bread* drifting from the neighborhood panadería every morning. It was soft, slightly sweet, and always dusted with powdered sugar like a kiss from the clouds. His Abuela used to slice it warm, slather guava butter on top, and serve it with a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice while humming old boleros. Today, he’s recreating that childhood magic—with a twist! The guava butter is now whipped to perfection, creamy and fruity, a blend of tradition and flair. With every bite, Don Luis reminds us: some memories are meant to be tasted again and again 🍽️✨ Time, Calories & Cost

  • 0.5 cup warm milk (110°F) 🥛
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar 🧂
  • 0.25 tsp salt 🧂
  • 2 eggs 🥚🥚
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened 🧈

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened 🧈
  • Pinch of salt 🧂

Instructions

  1. 1Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in yeast and let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. 2Make the dough: Add eggs, salt, and flour gradually to the yeast mixture. Mix well, then knead in the butter until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes).
  3. 3First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled.
  4. 4Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough, divide into 8 pieces, and roll into spirals like cinnamon rolls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. 5Second rise: Let rolls rest for 30 more minutes.
  6. 6Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. 7Make the guava butter: While the bread bakes, beat guava paste and butter together with a pinch of salt until fluffy and smooth.
  8. 8Serve: Let Mallorca rolls cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with a big swipe of guava butter.
