Puerto Rican Breakfast Arepas

Story

The sun peeked through the kitchen window, casting golden rays on Don Luis’s rustic wooden countertop. A soft breeze swayed the lace curtain, and the sound of sizzling oil filled the air. Today was all about Arepas de Maíz—the Puerto Rican kind, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Don Luis smiled as his grandson tried to flatten the dough with both palms, mimicking his abuelito’s expert touch. “Con cariño,” Don Luis whispered, teaching him that cooking is about feeling, not rushing. With every flip of the golden arepa, the kitchen filled with laughter, tradition, and a scent that reminded him of early mornings in Puerto Rico—radio on, coffee brewing, and a plate of arepas ready to be devoured.
