Mallorcas with Cheese and Ham

Prep: 10 minCook: 5 minTotal: 15 min

Story

Don Luis remembers the scent of powdered sugar floating through the kitchen on Sunday mornings in Old San Juan. The breeze would carry the scent down the narrow cobblestone streets, and if you followed it, you’d find a cozy panadería bustling with families. That’s where he first had a *Mallorca* – a buttery, spiral bun kissed with sweetness. But Don Luis, ever the innovator in his humble kitchen, added a twist: melted cheese and warm slices of ham inside that sugary cloud of bread. At first, *Abuela* raised her eyebrow at the combo. Sweet and savory? 🤨 But one bite later, she smiled and nodded. “Este nene sabe lo que hace…” she said. And from that day on, *Mallorcas con Queso y Jamón* became a breakfast favorite.
